is considered a pinnacle of CRPGs, then the genre is in worse shape than I thought. I can murder a character in the tutorial only for them to be right as rain five minutes later and thanking me for saving them when I literally stomped their skull in.I put a large barrel in front of a door to block an enemy's entrance, only for the the door to open, clip through the barrel and the enemy walk right in.Two characters stand in the same place upon the conclusion of a quest and recite the same lines back and forth every 10 seconds forever.I can murder a half dozen people, leaving charred corpses littered over the ground, and the guard whose AI routine takes him directly through that area never bats an eye.
I play a lot of pen and paper RPGs, and this ain't even in the same galaxy. I was pitched something that was 'almost a pen and paper RPG!' in terms of reactivity and sandbox play. It's a perfectly good game and the combat is a blast, but I feel like I was kind of duped by the reviews and hype.
I'm kinda in agreement OP, though unlike you I'm still playing 9 hours in on the strength of the combat and the story hooks.
